Portland Fine Arts Guild talk and demonstration

Monday evening I gave a talk and small demonstration to the Portland Fine Arts Guild. they were so receptive to what I had to say and to my art work. It was a pleasure talking with them.
Everyone made me feel so welcome, and had a lot of questions which made the interchange fun.
I would like to thank Marianne Stokes for inviting me to speek. I met her last June when she was checking out her work at the Lake Oswego Art Festival. It is always nice to get to know another artist.

NEW ACRYLIC PAINTING TITLED "CAVE OF TREES"

  CAVE OF TREES
acrylic on canvas,  27" x 46"   $2,480.00

What is this woman doing in this cave of trees? Does she have a secret affinity to the birds that live in this dark place? What secrets are hidden under the lock of the key she holds? Is she checking to make sure she has not been followed?Perhaps there is a magic in the feathers she has gathered from her winged friends.

INTERNATIONAL PHOTO SHOOT, PORTLAND, CHINATOWN

This was a most interesting day, I had no idea that I would find so many things to take pictures of just walking a few blocks in the city. There were about 50 people on this shoot.

"WHICH CAME FIRST"
Bill spotted these interesting signs and windows and I took the shot.

"FLY BY"
I love this bird flying by the bricks overhead, and the repeat of the white in the mortar of the brick. Click on the picture to get a larger view.

"JUXTAPOSITION"
The contrast from the Chinese gate to the contemporary office building really caught my eye here, as well as the repeatition of the angles.

"WAITING FOR THE BUSS"
That is Bill waiting for the bus and me.

Bill & I both went with Laurie Excell on this photo shoot. Laurie was the organizer of this event here in Portland. She is also our very talented neighbor. A professional photographer who photographers wonderful wild life and nature.Visit her blog at http://www.laurieexcell.blog.com/

It was really fun looking for things that might make interesting pictures on the streets of Portland.

CONCOURS D' ELEGANCE

Bill wanted to go see this fabulas car show and I was so glad I took my camera and tripod.

Reflecting the beautiful setting for this car show on the campus of Pacific U. in Forest Grove, these show stoppers are real jems.

Using Laurie's macro lens, I had fun shooting the hood orniments of these clasics.

Gleaming chrome and paint that seems to be as deep as a lake, a picture paradise for anyone who loves playing with a camera.

THE BEAUTY OF CRATER LAKE

We took an impromptu trip to go see this beautiful lake. So close to home but we had never spent any time there. It was a three day trip that we enjoyed so much it seemed like a longer vacation.

The bones of trees stand as a testament to the drastic conditions.

In spite of the harsh weather, trees can live a very long life.

Just before leaving the park we drove in to see these fumaroles left behind when the soft earth eroded away. A wind picked up the dust which made for an irreal scene.

CRATER LAKE, BEAUTY ALL AROUND

This has got to be one of the most photographed spots in Oregon, how could it not be it is spectacular from every angle around the lake.

This has been a couple of weeks of photography for me, with back to back adventures. The first was a trip to Crater Lake. Where I captured shots of dear and chipmunks and naturally the beautiful lake. This little guy was busy eating his lunch.

ROMANTIC BEAUTIFUL WOMEN, NEW ACRYLIC PAINTING

AMERICAN EXPRESSIONISM "ECSTASY IN RED" 20" x 37" Acrylic

This new painting is part of a series of figurative women, all in red. I find the color red to be dromatic and femme fatale when painting romantic and beautiful women. Red is also a color I associate with theatrics and drama, both qualities I like to portray in my work. The women in this painting is in ecstasy over something she has seen or heard.

NOT A WAY TO START OUT THE YEAR

A terrific cold. I must have caught the bug at Frank I Laurie's new years party, because she got it as well. But I just got back into the studio and I am not going to let that stop me. Christmas is hard enough to get work done and I need to get to work now.

I was invited to have a piece of my art work in the Lake Oswego Visual Chronicle this year during Art Festival in June. It is an honor to be invited. The only requirement is that it in some way relate to Lake Oswego and or it's people. It is a chellenge to do something that is fresh and exciting. The city usually purchases one of the pieces for there permanent art collection.

BACK TO THE DRAWING PAD

It's so nece to get back into the studio and loosen up the fingers, do a little drawing to get ready to paint. It's always surprising, like any exercize, one needs to practice constantly, or you start to get rusty. So after a dozen drawings I am beginning to feel loosened up a bit. Just thought I would post a couple of them for you to see.
