GOLD MOLECULE STIRRING from the series MOLTEN GOLD

GOLD MOLECULE STIRRING from the series MOLTEN GOLD
6" x 8" acrylic, plaster & gold paint on illustration board

This is a little change of pace. These are non objective paintings, meaning no subject matter. They are done strictly for the beauty of the brush stroke and the expression and mood it can create. Unfortunately gold does not reproduce very well on the computer and is also hard to pick up with a camera, so a lot of the luminance is lost in reproduction. Where ever the yellow appears it is actually a dusting of bright gold.Never the less, I hope you enjoy these free flowing little gems as much as I enjoyed making them.

This evening it is back to the Lake Oswego Art Festival to help tag all the art work that has been hung for the big show. The Show opens on Friday and runs through Sunday.

ELUSIVE AURORA from the series NIGHT TRAVELERS

ELUSIVE AURORA from the series NIGHT TRAVELERS.
acrylic on 100% rag illustration board

These paintings are done in three stages. First the bright blue and green were painted over the entire board and allowed to dry. When it is dry it is painted over with black. While the black is still wet, I use a rubber brush, similar to a tiny spatula, to remove the black in a random pattern. When that has dried, I Then I design the Night Travelers face around the swirls of blue and green. This is always fun and challenging to decide where it will go and how to make the composition work.

CALLA'S CANDLE

CALLA'S CANDLE from the series AAH SPRING
6" X 8" acrylic on canvas on Masonite.
____________
AAH SPRING

Dark, long and windy, wet and cold,
The charm of winter soon grows old.

We watch the ever changing sky,
We see the clouds go drifting by.

We know that warmer days will come,
Days of dancing in the sun.

Were looking forward to the spring,
When color covers everything.

With anticipation we watch and wait,
Like fishermen who cast there bate.

Then suddenly, without fanfare,
A glorious perfume fills the air.

First bloom so small, and yet so sweet,
Like pools of honey at our feet.

Then one by one the pallet grows,
More color added to the shows.

Every day another gift,
Its beauty gives our heart a lift.

Our expectations, again fulfilled,
The pot of colors has been spilled.

All our senses now can sing.
At last it’s here, aaaahhh….spring!

EAGLE AT SUNSET

The eagle at sunset continues to fly,
He soars with grace across the sky,

You can hear the piercing eagle calls,
Across the hills, as sunset falls.

There nesting fledglings loudly peep,
For one last meal before they sleep.

From high in the tree top the eagles soar,
Searching for food as they scans the shore.

The dwindling light soon to steal,
A full days hunt, an evening meal.

He takes one last dip down to the sea,
Before climbing high, to his nest in the tree.

The catch is sustaining, they ate there fill,
Tomorrow once more he’ll test his skill.

NEW DAILY PAINTING

I will be posting my daily paintings on this blog. so I hope you will check to see what is new each day. I paint them in series so each painting will have the name of the series as well as the name of the painting. In most cases I write a poem to go with the series. A copy of the poem comes with each painting.

BY THE SEA from the series OLD LACE 6"X 8" acrylic on canvas on masonite.

OLD LACE

I found a tin box beginning to rust,
On the floor in the attic covered in dust.

Wrapped in yellowing tissue, carefully tied with a bow,
With a dried and brown flower that had lost it’s glow.

I presented the box to grandma that day
Sure she would have a tale to convey.

She said the hibiscus was a beautiful red,
And for a while nothing more was said.
……………………………………………………..

“The smell of Hibiscus filled the air,
A red one he picked and tucked in my hair”.

Then with trembling hands, as if to retrace,
The box gently opened to reveal the old lace.

On a bed of white seashells, it carefully lay,
The look in her eyes was quite far away.

“This lace trimmed the blue dress that I wore,
The night we walked side by side at the seashore.”

“We took off our shoes and danced in the sand,
To the far off sound of the pavillion band.”

“With fragments of seashells, he found in the surf,
He spelled out “I love you”, upon mother earth.”

“One of my shoes was washed out to sea,
And that shoe was never returned to me.”

“I should have known , that it was a sign,”
With that,… cold chills ran down my spine.

“The dress was quite lovely trimmed with this lace,”
As a tear ran down the lines in her face.

“Still wearing that dress we kissed our goodbyes,
As he gently wiped the tears from my eyes.”

“I watched as his ship sailed out to sea,
Not knowing he’d never come home to me.”
……………………………………………………………..

“You look a lot like him”, her hand brushing my face,
“If you’d like it, you are welcome to keep the old lace.”
