WATCHING THE SUNSET from the series CHICKEN RUNWAY also lovingly known as Chicken Sh*t

WATCHING THE SUN SET from the series CHICKEN RUNWAY also lovingly known as Chicken Sh*t
6" X 8" acrylic on canvas on Masonite

This was such an interesting debate over the naming of this series. Some loved the original Chicken Sh*t name, and were disipointed that I changed it and some don't. So right now it has both, with a little * added. Would love to hear your thoughts too. keyart@comcast.net or leave your comment here.

We just got back from our three crammed packed days in Los Vegas. We did a lot and a lot that we wanted to do, we didn't have time for. Laurie and Frank are the best and so much fun to be with. Laurie and I shot a lot of pictures. You should check out her blog ( http://www.laurieexcell.com/blog/ ) as I am sure she will be posting some of her beautiful shots in the near future. Although, she is really going to be on the fast track for a while. We caught up with her in Vegas at the close of her teaching at Photoshop World. and at the end of this week she will be conducting a Safari in Alaska to photograph brown bears, immediately followed by more classes she is teaching back in the lower 48. She barly has time to catch her breath. I am so privileged to have such a talented neighbor as a friend. Our guys patiently toted our tripods around for us and only asked for a little beer in return. Your ears your and eyes almost get sensory overload in that city.
Both Santana and the O were fantastic shows. We would be hard pressed to choose one over the other. I hope I too can post some of my pictures from the trip soon.

THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM from the series CHICKEN SH*T HICKEN RUNWAY

THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM from the series CHICKEN RUNWAY
6" X 8" acrylic on canvas on Masonite

Our neighbor's two sons Adam and Nathan, got four baby chicks this spring. Each chick was different and they had fun naming them. The Rhode Island Red was named "Awesomeness".
"Chica", the black and white Barred Plymouth Rock had to be re named "Chico", when he decided one morning to try to crow. Then there was the gray one (Easter Egger) that they named "Colorful" for the colorful eggs she should start laying soon. And lastly "Chicken Dinner" aka "Yang Chen", a Light Brahma with interesting white feathers on her feet.

I was happy to have gotten some pictures of the teenage chickens just before Chico was moved to a farm in the country where he can crow to his harts content.
I have enjoyed watching them over the fence and seeing them grow. This was the inspiration for this series, It was fun to give them a bit of personality which I tried to capture in a fairly loose manor.

FLASH
I just got some wonderful news to share. My Granddaughter, Kallen, just became engaged to Jason. He gave her the ring at silver falls where they met, sweet. Now the fun begins.

Yesterday I had an early computer class learning about I photo on my new mac. I love my new apple computer but it is going to take a while to convert everything. It's easy enough, but remembering it all is the hard part. So that is why I didn't get my Monday post up.

FOREST LANTERN from the series MOON GLOW

FOREST LANTERN from the series MOON GLOW

6" X 8" acrylic on 100% rag illustration board

This series was fun to do. Iniyislly it involved a lot of poring of paint. Then the negative space between the trees was painted in. It was fun picking out the strange shapes of branches and woodland crags. Lastly I painted the moon and it's many reflections bouncing off the tree trunks and branches.

FULL MOON RISING from the series MOON GLOW
6" X 8" acrylic on 100% rag illustration board

There are just three paintings in this series and since I didn't post yesterday that will work out just fine.

Yesterday I had a lovely visit from my dear girl friend and fellow artist Suzanne McBride. She has been touring the US and Canada for the last three months in her van. She is from TX, and we got to know each other while taking master art classes several years ago in Cloudcroft NM from Bill Herring. The bonds from those classes were strong, and it was like we had never been apart.Suzanne's love of animals shows in her beautiful bronze sculptures and paintings. Visit her website at http://www.SMCB.com for a real treat.

SOPHISTICATION from the series RED LACE

SOPHISTICATION from the series RED LACE... this painting was stolen
6" X 8" acrylic on illustration board

It's not about the money, but how can someone truly enjoy something that they take by theft. It's beauty is then shrouded with the stigma of guilt.
It's hard enough for a gallery to survive these days, but to have this happen in there establishment is not only difficult for the artist but very hard for the gallery who has taken on the care of the work until it is sold. As an artist I appreciate so much what my gallery does for me, and I hate to see this sort of thing happen.
We, as artists, wish our work would go into loving and happy homes, where it can be shown with pride.

RED LACE

What says woman,
quite like red lace.
It imparts her enchantment,
it fills her with grace.
When she wears it with style,
she’s quite the showcase.
She has a strong presence,
that is not commonplace.
She stands out in a crowd,
creates her own space.
What a lovely seductress,
when wearing red lace.

_____________
MYSTERIES OF THE FAR EAST

Shadowy mysteries the Far East hold,
Intrigue of the stories told,
Compelling lour of days of old,
Titillating to the mind.

Smoky corners where incense burn,
Surprises found at every turn,
Stimulating this grate sojourn,
What treasures you will find.

Crowded markets in a flurry,
Back and forth the patrons scurry,
spicy cent, saffron and curry,
Within your senses wind.

Turkish coffee strong and sweet,
Bid you stop and take a seat,
Your fortune reading quite complete,
Nothing left behind.

A moment just to stop and ponder,
Let your thoughts and musing wander,
What still lies in corners yonder,
Behind the silken blind?
